Dependent Personality Disorder - Gaining An Understanding


Individuals who have Dependent Personality Disorder have a great desire to be taken care of by others.

 They feel incompetent on their own. People who have this disorder demonstrate clingy and submissive behaviors. They may also fear being alone.

 Some people who have this disorder have difficulty making decisions without seeking advice from others because they often lack self-confidence.


Further, people who have Dependent Personality Disorder often act up inappropriately when they become upset because they have such a fear of losing support from others. They also often become involved in abusive relationships.


The most effective psychotherapeutic approach is one that is centered on solutions to specific life problems that the client is currently experiencing.Bottom of Form
