Depression- Symptoms and What Can Help Depression

Everyone gets down in the dumps from time to time. However, for some people it is difficult for them to pick themselves backup. Also, some people have a chemical imbalance in their brain.

Some symptoms for depression are the following:

Anxiety and panic
Feeling hopeless and helpless
Being is a depressed mood for long or frequent period
Loss of concentration
Fatigue and loss of energy
Feeling sad
Feeling worthless
Diminished interest in activities
Difficulty concentrating
Insomnia
Significant Weight gain or loss

There is help for depression. Talking to a counselor can be helpful. There are treatment options that include psychotherapy (counseling and education by a professional mental health provider) and psychotropic medication.   
The following can also help depression:

Sunshine and fresh air
Exercise
Change of scenery
Positive self – talk
Positive affirmations
Eating healthy
Journaling
Talking to a trusted friend
Drinking plenty of water

Forcing yourself to get up, dress up and get out of the house- even if it is to walk around your yard

Explore your passions and pursue your interests


I cannot stress enough how much exercise helps depression- especially brisk walking outside!

Regular exercise helps ease depression in several ways. It releases feel-good brain chemicals that may ease depression which are neurotransmitters, endorphins and endocannabinoids.

There is help for depression. Call a counselor for help. Just talking to someone will help you to feel better!

When you are feeling down, overwhelmed, and/ or feeling anxious with panic and anxiety, it helps to have someone to talk to. 


I am leading support groups/ classes in July and August to help individuals with these symptoms.

Groups/ Classes are FREE, however; you need to register.

Get information on how to better understand anxiety and depression as well as learn coping skills and how to be empowered to get through difficult times.

Diane received her Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University with a specialization in Trauma and Crisis Counseling.

Diane is under the clinical supervision of Michael Loftis L.C.S.W. as she pursues professional licensure as a LPC-MHSP. 

Diane is also currently pursuing her PhD in Psychology.
