Many people who seek medical attention are told that their pain is in their mind. This can be very frustrating. These individuals then fear that they will not be validated with their pain.
An individual's cognition can influence and interact with their emotions as well as their behaviors.
An increased attention to a person's physical pain can in fact make their pain worse.
Low self-efficacy beliefs are associated with higher chronic pain-related disabilities and depression.
Personalities, moods, previous experiences, and secondary gains all influence a person's physical level of pain.
