Sit, Walk, Or Stand?

For several years we've heard that sitting at a desk all day is detrimental to your health. It can increase a person's risk of type 2 diabetes and sitting for extended periods increases the risk of death.

This caused a wave of interest in standing desks.

However, a small study of twenty people finds that standing at a desk all day may increase the swelling of lower limbs and a decrease in a person's mental abilities.

Alternatively, researchers suggest that taking time away from your desk and walking is probably a better option.  It gets you active, moving muscles, burning calories, and increases blood flow.

The long and short is that being in one position for extended periods of time is just not healthy.
